how we grow it
Our turf is exceptional because of how we grow it, how we harvest, and how it performs for you.
-
Our turf thrives on a perfect ribbon of soil known as the green sands. This deep, fertile soil supports a wide range of crops through heavy rain and drought conditions. The light, sandy soil also makes our turf rolls lighter than those of our competitors, who often deal with heavier, more inconsistent soil.
-
We maintain the health of our soil through crop rotation, which breaks up disease cycles, reduces weed pressure, and improves soil nutrients. After a field of turf is harvested, we partner with local farms to grow sugar beets, potatoes, carrots, and/or raise pigs on the same land. This method enhances both turf and crop quality while minimising pest and disease build-up, reducing the need for chemical pesticides.
Crop rotation also minimises pest and disease build-up, which means we use less pesticides on the turf.
-
Our turf is nurtured until it has fully matured, which takes around one year. This period includes carefully managed irrigation, expert agronomic care plan, and regular mowing. We collaborate with specialist agronomists to develop effective nutritional plans. Our turf is cut three times a week to encourage thicker growth, prevent weeds and thatch build up, ensure a consistent height and appearance, and promotes a strong root system.
-
Once the grass is established, we begin cutting it three times a week, the recommended frequency to maintain healthy and visually appealing lawns, especially in professional settings like golf courses or public gardens. Regular mowing encourages the grass to grow thicker and prevents weeds from taking hold. It also ensures the height of the grass is consistent and can help prevent thatch build-up and promotes stronger root systems.
-
The frequency and amount of water needed for growing turf depends on climate and season. Our light sandy soils are free draining so they can handle heavy rainfall, grow optimum turf and top up our reservoirs.
When we experience drought periods, we use the water from our own reservoirs. We water deeply to encourage deep root growth and do as much at night as possible to reduce evaporation.
Cutting edge machinery
Our turf is harvested with precision and care to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
We use a state-of-the-art Firefly to harvest our turf, revolutionising the harvesting process. This advanced machine operates at higher speeds and delivers superior cutting quality, resulting in lighter and more visually appealing turf rolls. Additionally, the Firefly harvester significantly reduces field wastage and consumes 50% less fuel compared to previous models, making it an environmentally friendly choice.
